In Virginia today more than 45% of low-income children are not reading on grade level. More than 63% cannot do Math on grade level. To succeed, children need these skills. Better educated people are less likely to become dependent or be involved in crime, and more likely to hold a job with a good paycheck. Virginia’s Education Improvement Scholarship Tax Credit (EISTC) offers opportunity to 5,000 low-income Virginia children, but we must do more. I support expanding the EISTC so more children find the school that’s best for them, and learn the skills giving them a brighter future.
